Pakistan releases its 2022 men’s T20 World Cup roster

In preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Australia 2022, which will take place from October 16 to November 13, Pakistan's cricket selectors today unveiled their team. Wasim Junior was added to the team after fully recovering from the side strain he sustained during the ACC T20 Asia Cup, but Shaheen, who is in London receiving treatment for a knee ailment and will likely start bowling again early next month, will join the team in Brisbane on October 15.

The World Cup-bound team will compete in the T20I tri-series in Christchurch from October 7–14 with Bangladesh and New Zealand as the other competing teams before they arrived in Brisbane on October 15.

“We are receiving encouraging reports about Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is likely to resume bowling early next month.”

All of the players who will travel for the World Cup have been named by the selectors, except Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi, for the seven-match T20I series against England. According to their plan to reward top players, the selectors have replaced them with Northern's all-rounder Aamir Jamal and Sindh's unidentified spinner Abrar Ahmed.

“Fakhar Zaman has also been rested from the England T20Is so that he can recover from the knee injury he sustained when he landed awkwardly while fielding in the final.”

Star pacer included in Pakistan T20 World Cup squad

The renowned pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi will make his injury comeback in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022 after Pakistan announced their 15-person roster. Afridi missed the Asia Cup when the medical staff recommended a 4-6 week break due to a right knee ligament ailment. During the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle in July, he sustained an injury while playing the field.

In addition, Shan Masood, who has yet to participate in a T20I match, and Haider Ali, who last played in the format in December 2021, were both included in the squad.

The explosive batsman Fakhar Zaman, on the other hand, was forced to join the reserves due to a knee injury, and despite considerable speculation, veteran Shoaib Malik was not recalled.

Masood received his first T20I call-up after having a successful run in the T20 Blast in England. He has participated in Tests and ODIs for Pakistan, most recently doing so in the longest format in 2021.

Fakhar Zaman, who continues to be in the reserves despite a subpar 2022 with the bat, is replaced by Haider Ali. The left-hander has appeared in seven T20 Internationals this year, scoring just 96 runs overall with an average of 13.71.

Haider has played 21 T20Is for Pakistan, the last of them in December 2021. He has made three fifties and averages 23.88 in the format.
