Ideal start: all four Springboks to score a hat-trick in Test's debut

Starting as you want to continue is an old adage that some Springboks found tough to fulfill thanks to their brilliant Test debuts. Four men scored triples in their Springbok debut and two of them scored more than three points from five points. Rugby fans can book British and Irish Lions Tour Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.
Stefan Terblanche had a spectacular start to his Test career with a four-shot attempt against Ireland at Bloemfontein in 1998. Terblanche opened the scoring at the end of a movement that started with a rolling maul and finished with the winger going over unmarked in the corner.
The competition started tight, but Terblanche's three seconds ensured a comfortable victory for the Springboks. The 1999 visit to Italy provided the Springboks with an excellent opportunity to attract young talent and few were as exciting as Breyton Paulse. Paulse was among eight debutants on the day and was one of three to reach the scoreboard. The diminutive winger went on to score 26 attempts in a test story that ended eight years later. Just a week after Paulse scored a hat-trick in the test's debut, Deon Kayser became the third South African to accomplish the feat.
Deon Kayser
Kayser scored three times against Italy in Durban, but would not be the top scorer of the day when Terblanche crossed for a record of five scores. He is the only player to have scored a hat-trick in his debut off the bench. His career lasted only three seasons during which he played 13 tests for his country.
Tonderai Chavhanga made the most impact possible in his introduction to the international scene scoring six times at Uruguay's 134-3 in East London. The Zimbabwean driver failed to live up to his phenomenal start and would not score in the remaining three test games of his short career.
He gave up his international ambitions at age 27 when he left South African rugby for a contract with the Newport Gwent Dragons in Wales. Chavhanga returned to South Africa in 2013 joining the Cheetahs but did not go to the central franchise before leaving for the Sharks in 2014.
