Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano has stated when he is hoping the club's appeal against their two-year European football ban will be complete.

The city was told by UEFA last week that they will not be eligible to play in either the Europa League or Champions League for a total of two years after breaking Financial Fair Play rules and were also fined a sum of €30million (£25million).

The decision means that should City still finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, the fourth spot in the Champions League will go to the team finishing fifth in the table.

With the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal still trying to secure a place in Europe's top for next season, that would come as a huge boost for any team who would otherwise have missed out this season.

But City has already stated that they are appealing the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and CEO Ferran Soriano says he is hoping that it will be sorted out by the end of this season.

"We're looking for an early resolution," he told the club's official website.

"Obviously through a thorough process and through a fair process, but the hope is that this process will be finished before the beginning of the summer.

"And until then, for us, it's business as usual."

The former Barcelona chief stated that the club is innocent of the charges against them and that the club feels UEFA persisted with the case because of politics rather than justice.

"The most important thing I have to say today is that the allegations are not true," he added. "They are simply not true.

"The owner has not put money in this club that has not been properly declared. We are a sustainable football club.

"We are profitable, we don't have debt, our accounts have been scrutinized many times by auditors, by regulators, by investors, and this is perfectly clear.

"Of course a lot of people come now and say: 'What were you expecting? This is the way it works - you should have expected a negative outcome the way the system is designed.'

"But we didn't believe that. We worked very hard, we provided all kinds of evidence but in the end, this FFP investigatory chamber relied on out of context stolen emails over all the other evidence that we provided that actually happened.

"And I think it's normal that we feel like we feel. Ultimately, based on our experience and our perception, this seems to be less about justice and more about politics."
