Nottingham Forest manager Sabri
Lamouchi got his just desserts for fielding a significantly weakened team
against struggling Charlton Athletic, who climb back above Stoke City at the
wrong end of the Championship.
Forest made five changes to the side
that started Saturday's 2-0 victory over promotion rivals Leeds United, with a
view to keeping players fresh for a clash with West Bromwich Albion this
weekend.
And this semi-reserve side went and
lost to Charlton, who has been in free fall over the winter and lost 3-1 at
Stoke on Saturday.
Lyle Taylor
A goal from Lyle Taylor settled
matters at the City Ground, where Lamouchi had given a debut to Gaetan Bong and
the first start for Adama Diakhaby. Tyler Walker was also handed a first start
since returning from a loan spell at Lincoln City.
Matty Cash, Samba Sow, Yuri Ribeiro,
Sammy Ameobi, and top scorer Lewis Grabban were all rested, with Cash the only
one even to feature on the bench.
Charlton leapfrogs Stoke and
Huddersfield into 19th. They had not won an away match since August at Reading.
Michael O'Neill has a chance to put distance between Stoke and the bottom three
tomorrow with a home match against play-off chasing Preston North End.
He said today: "I wouldn’t say
(our position) is comfortable but our objective is to put as much distance
between us and the bottom three places as possible.
The focus has to be on ourselves and
having that little gap is nice but we have to make sure we look at our own
points tally, our own momentum and run of results are.
